Gadauri Sahib
Gurudwara Gadauri Sahib is the sacred Tap Asthan (place of meditation) of Baba Sri Chandra Sahib Ji. It is located in Gadauri village in district Kullu, Himachal Pradesh - 3 km from Bhuntar and 200 meters from the P.W.D. Workshop. Nestled in the lap of beautiful mountains amidst natural scenery, the beauty of this Gurudwara is a sight to behold.
In Samvat 1700 Vikrami, Maharaj Sri Chandra Ji graced this land with his sacred lotus feet. He performed continuous meditation (samadhi) for 22 days, sanctifying this earth. Here, atop a golden rock, Baba Ji performed tapasya, and by planting his Chimta (tongs) into this very rock he caused pure water to spring forth - a place known today as Bawli Sahib. Alongside stands the Dhuna Sahib, where sacred vibhuti (holy ash) from Samvat 1700 remains preserved and glorified to this day. All of Maharaj Ji's belongings are fully preserved here.
Even today, Maharaj Sri Chandra Ji continues to grace this land, and the sangat connected to him witness his majestic form. Miracles occur at every step here, creating a constant sense of Maharaj Ji's presence. Every sangat that comes here with devotion returns filled with boundless faith, having witnessed these wonders.
The spot where Maharaj Ji had taken samadhi lay 8 feet beneath the earth. Maharaj Ji himself appeared in Swami Dayanand Ji's dream, giving the command and inspiration to dig the site. Through that excavation, these sacred items gradually emerged into the world. Today, all these sacred belongings are lovingly enshrined in Bhaura Sahib. Their descriptions are as follows:
1. Bhaura Sahib
This is reached by descending 13 steps from the Gurudwara Sahib. In front of you stands the sacred rock, which shines like gold - and touching it turns your hands golden too. This form of the rock is revealed only to those upon whom Maharaj Ji bestows special grace; otherwise, to the sangat it appears as an ordinary stone. It is on this very rock that Maharaj Ji performed samadhi. Most remarkable of all - at the corner of this rock, the sacred footprint of Maharaj Sri Chandra Ji remains visible to this day.
2. Dhuna Sahib
Maharaj Ji's sacred Dhuna Sahib is situated directly above the sacred rock. The vibhuti (sacred ash) preserved within dates from the time Baba Ji arrived in Samvat 1700 Vikrami and lit the Dhuna. This is no ordinary vibhuti - consuming it or applying it removes all physical and mental ailments. Though it tastes ordinary, many devotees experience it as bitter or sweet.
3. Sacred Chimta
In the middle of the sacred rock, Baba Sri Chandra Maharaj Ji planted his Chimta (tongs) with his own hands. It cannot be moved by anyone, nor can it be pulled out.
4. Bawli Sahib
This lies on the right side of the sacred rock. Maharaj Ji, by planting his Chimta into the rock, caused water to spring forth from below - and the water in Bawli Sahib flows from this very sacred rock. The water actually lay 200 feet beneath the earth, but by Baba Ji's grace it appeared after digging just 8 feet. This water never runs dry. It is used in preparing the Langar and Kadah Prasad at the Gurudwara. Drinking this water relieves many ailments.
5. Charan Paduka
These are in the form of wooden khadavaan (sandals), golden-brown in color and remarkably light. Despite their great antiquity and having lain buried in the earth, they remain fully preserved today.
6. Simrana
This is made of Rudraksha and has 27 golden-brown beads. Baba Ji used this to perform simran (remembrance of the Divine). Before your very eyes, its color turns entirely golden and begins to shine.
7. Golden Hair from the Jataas
Some of Baba Ji's hair - entirely golden - have been fully preserved here.
8. Clay Vessel
In this ancient vessel, Baba Ji used to prepare the Langar. One side has turned black. Even today, when it is filled with rice, it empties itself or is found half-empty. It is refilled again. By its very blessing, the Langar of the Gurudwara continues to this day.
9. Badi Bawli Sahib (The Great Bawli)
By the boundless grace of Maharaj Sri Chandra Ji, Swami Dayanand Ji - who serves here - received a most extraordinary vision one day. According to it, Baba Sri Chandra Ji's command was that a great Bawli Sahib should be constructed, in whose water the sangat could bathe, and that 84 steps should lead down to it.
Following Maharaj Ji's command, the seva began. Baba Ji, observing strict discipline himself and having the sangat do the same, prepared the site. The entire sangat always served this place with great cleanliness and purity. Having bathed, in clean clothes, with heads covered and barefoot - regardless of rain, cold, or any weather - all the sangats participated enthusiastically in this seva and witnessed many miracles.
Today this Bawli Sahib stands complete. Such is its glory that when the sangat descends the 84 steps and arrives here, they are liberated from the cycle of 84 lakh (8.4 million) life forms. Its water too flows from within, beneath the sacred rock. Through its consumption, even cancer patients are recovering. This water relieves every kind of disease. Most remarkably, this water changes three colors at the same time and offers three different tastes. According to Baba Ji, the sacred confluence (sangam) of the three rivers - Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati - resides in this very Bawli Sahib.
All these sacred items, touched by Maharaj Sri Chandra Ji, have been preserved here with great devotion, love, and reverence by Sant Baba Swami Dayanand Ji, who serves this place. It is through Baba Ji's boundless efforts, hard work, and dedication that this Gurudwara is progressing by leaps and bounds - day by day, night by night. Maharaj Ji bestows special grace upon Sant Baba Swami Dayanand Ji here, a truth one can only know after meeting him.
Blessed is the sangat that remains with Baba Ji day after day, that assists in the works he undertakes, that receives his darshan, and has the great fortune of listening to his discourses. To such a sangat - a hundred, a hundred pranaams.
